Not too long ago a very good friend of mine, sent me this picture of her new tattoo, in progress at that time. To my surprise it was inspired by an old painting of mine. I can't imagine a more honourable way to appreciate some one's art. So, it really made my day, I'm glad she liked the painting enough to put it under her skin and I really hope it made her happy. It definitely made me.

First and foremost, Happy New Year everyone! This is my first post for 2012 and I thought I should celebrate it in a fashionable manner.

Therefore this is an illustrated collection I made for a local competition. The concept revolved around the idea of travelling, mixing cultures and styles. So I got my inspiration from the African culture, just because of their geometric patterns, fibres and textures and maneuvering those materials, which all resemble to traditional customs used in my country. It's a slow-fashion concept, I've put a lot of my attention to the shape of the clothes (reminding of African sculptures), the fabrics and their manipulation, the dyeing of the fabrics and so on. The name is actually the word "travel" in Afrikaans, it sounds so mystical and magical in my opinion.

In a way, I'm happy of how it turned out, I'm glad I finally got myself drawing again, and I hope it was not just an isolated event (although I haven't drawn since). Please someone give me a kick in the back. But until then, you can tell me what you think about the drawings.

I love autumn. It has such lovely colours, it gives you a kind of calm and sweet melancholy. It's just so sad it ends so quickly nowadays. In the short time of sunny autumn days, me and my sister managed to photograph some portraits that capture all those season's moods. We took the pictures just before I cut my long locks, I think it was the longest I've ever had them. Well, I hope you like the photos. Here's my autumn soundtrack that goes with them:

I'm still having a hard time coping with the cold outside, I feel I didn't even hear the last song of the crickets and today I woke up with white trees and rooftops outside. So I guess "November rain" feels out of place this year.

But anyway, I got a couple new features from ShoppingNews.ro with my fluffy monster pillows. Because we need to cuddle our soft cozy pillows in these tough winter days, right?

my little working space

Most of the times I don't really enjoy talking about myself just because I think that what I do says enough. But a couple of weeks ago, I was featured on Breslog with an article about my petit atelier so I had to let everyone in my tiny space. In the end I received wonderful feedback and I was really grateful for that.

So this is where I work everyday, my ever-growing artistic corner. I hope to make it bigger one day, more spacious, more organic, more organised and more colourful.

A while back I had the opportunity to showcase one of my corset-blouses from the SkeletOn-SkeletOff collection in a fashion photo shooting for Aimi. The concept was more on the cinematic, high fashion side so in the end, I think all the elements blended quite well together. breslog feature & interview

Lately I've focused my attention mainly on my little shop and on my handmade accessories and toys, that I've forgotten how to draw or how it feels like. I especially miss drawing fashion illustration. I've set so many goals for myself at the beginning of this summer and I think I've only accomplished half... or not even nearly as much. At least I read a good amount of books, an activity I kind of forgot in the last couple of years.

Anyway, recently I got a feature on Breslo, an interview with Cinnamoncloves. I was so glad for the warm welcome in their community and I hope I will feel right at home there, I do already. So thank you very much!

Well my muscles still ache, my ears are still numb since the last weekend when we rocked the boat, but oh yeah... it was all worth it. DTTC turned out to be another great, fun event; I was looking forward to see all the dancers competing with all their different moves and styles and I have to say I wasn't disappointed. I don't think I can describe the feeling better than a visual image of it all, so you can check out the photos from the event on Uman's Facebook page and just to get a good visual from the entire event, check out this video that tells it the best (also the winner of the Pa-Parazzi photo/video contest):

As you may or may not know, every year Uman supports urban creativity by giving young artists the chance to show their artistic skills and win prizes for it. If you don't remember some of the past editions, here are some reminders:

This year, they focused their attention on the street-dance movement, and the prize is bigger than ever, 1000 euro. So get a camera, tape yourself doing your best moves, show your talent and get the chance to dance in the finals and win the big prize (you have 6 days left to entry). ...in fact, don't wake me up at all, I like this dream of a last summer vacation and I don't want to give it up just yet because I am the summer's biggest fan. But then again, I'm still keeping myself busy, so it's not always fun and no work.

In the end, the show we held in our faculty's gallery turned out OK, it was more of a family gathering but a good thing came out of it. I also had the chance to present the collection later that night at the venue the BA students were presenting their collections. It was so last minute and I didn't get the chance to give a notice, but to those whom were there: I hope you enjoyed it. Right, so here are some photos from the both shows.

I know this may be like an Oscar acceptance speech, but I feel it's necessary and the right thing to do. Because the madness is finally over, I can start breathing again and post more. Here is my MA project, a collection I've been working on for quite some time now. It was definitely a challenge, and I wanted to take it on my own this time, so I can say I learned a thing or two about the creative process. It is slightly different than my BA collection (Carnivale) but still on the dramatic side, since I like to explore with gravity.

The concept is rather simple, I thought about how things get formed, how they take shape and it occurred to me that everything starts with a line or a dot, a note, a word, a pattern, an ingredient, an idea... and that would be the base, the skeleton, onto which we add layers and layers just to get that final desired shape; much like the human body is constructed. So I constructed my shapes on top of, and from, a skeleton. I got inspiration from human and animal anatomy as well, with the structures, the lines, the shapes, and transformed them into a personal, plastic and decorative vision.

I think that would be enough theory for today, I'll let the illustration (for now) to do the speaking. I'll be back with photos soon.

a master event

This moment has come, therefore I shall begin with the very end. In a few days my university student life will be over and as you may or may not know by now, at this very end I have to create a fashion collection for my degree. Now, the fact that it will be showcased properly or not, is a different story.

Last time I did this was when I had my Carnivale Collection and along with my, then, colleagues organised a fashion show. It was not the best, not the worst, but it worked somehow. This time, when we should be one step further, on every aspect and every level, our faculty decided to screw us over a little bit, so that we can leave from this student experience with a truly momentous memory. And after many hours and many attempts to make it work, nothing changed, so I decided to just accept it as it is and not care as much.

Therefore, our "event" will be held this year, Wednesday, the 29th of June, at 10 a.m. (yes, that means in the morning) at the Mansarda Gallery from our faculty.

It is still an open to the public event, so anyone can come, you are all invited. If you can't make it, you probably won't miss much.

a palace show

Before I start complaining about everything, I would like to point out a good thing that came out of these two years of postgraduate studies. And that would be the latest show I had with some of my faculty colleagues. It was held at the Brancovenian Palaces (Palatele Brâncoveneşti) at Mogoşoaia. Unfortunately I couldn't be there to enjoy the ride and the scenery, but the girls did a wonderful job presenting all our creations, amoung them being my felt top from my Elemental Project. I only have a few pictures but if I'll get more I'll keep you posted.

I think I'm probably the last one to post pictures from the event, and so you've probably saw the cute little toy I painted on my facebook page. Anyway, I find it harder and harder to write, it became like one of the unchecked boxes with an exclamation mark on my to-do list. I just can't wait to finally finish this awful faculty and start living, I thought I would be scarred of what's to come but now I'm certain it will be better. I had a nervous break-down yesterday because of stress from school, and I don't think my health nor sanity are worth this. But I'll probably explain it better in another post.

Until then, here's my cute little girl, I'm so sad I had to give her away though. I really wish that one day she will return to me. Thank you Cărtureşti and Uman for the invitation and all the support, it was an honour.

I think that busy is an understatement for what I've been for the past couple of months. I'm trying not to complain, just trying... and I think I can say that I've literally been on lock-down in my space, seeing nothing but threads, fabrics and pins and no ending of this madness in sight.

But this weekend I'll take a break from fashion and I'll be painting at the Street Delivery event. It will all take place this weekend, on the 11th and 12 of June, on Mercy Street in Unirii Square. I'll be there, among many more artists and with the entire Uman crew, painting, skating, playing, watching movies and listening to music. So leave your car at home, and come join us to celebrate a green, artsy and creative day.

Let the monster invasion begin!

I'm really just on a 5 minute (turned into half an hour) break, so I thought I should post some of the latest features really quick. To start off, there's Open Art Magazine, that has an article about Street Delivery, featuring some photos from last year's event, where we painted on the Dacia super car. Well this year we'll be there again, with new surprises and projects, so feel free to come check it out. I'll come back with a poster and schedule and so on.

The next feature came unexpectedly from Adela Coc on her blog Twistedly and it was a wonderful surprise indeed. Whenever someone puts the word "inspirational" next to my name, I can not feel anything else but honoured, especially coming from someone who knows what their talking about. So check out her blog, and the wonderful bags and designs she has there and you'll see what I'm talking about.

And so, that's kind of it for now, I'll get back to work and I'll see you soon, live and virtually.

let's get clinical

So I'm back, with a teaser, as I promised. This post's title is not actually the collection's name, but it came to me one day when I was searching for reference material and I thought it was pretty funny. That being said, along with the picture, I think it's pretty obvious where I got my inspiration for this next fashion project; I still enjoy it, which is kind of odd to me, since I now can't stand my last one. Some say that's pretty normal and it's called "evolving" - I like that and I think I'll stick with it.

Since this is a part of my MA degree, I'm pretty sure there's going to be a fashion show, I don't really know right now when (probably at the end of June), we're still debating, but I promise (again) I will let you know.

keep calm and keep working

I think it's been quite a while since I just wrote my thoughts or feelings so let's call this a comeback.

Lately I kept myself busy, with or without my will. It's my last year of faculty, my MA degree is just around the corner, so yes, this means a new collection is coming up, I'll give you a teaser soon. Aside being stressed with that, I feel fine (or not). Mentally I'm struggling with the fact that real life is kicking in, I'm officially a grown-up, even though strangers on the street still think I'm 12. It's kind of sad, people start going their own ways, friends are leaving, summer breaks will be just a memory and the main focus now will be just living. But, my friend Andi, has been giving me optimism lessons, so every time the bad stuff happens, I'm trying to see the full side of the glass.

Anyway, I thought of posting a recent painting that I made, it was for a good friend of mine, who helped me in the past, and since then I wanted to make it up to him. It took me quite a while, but I always get things done. I hope he liked it, it was a four piece painting, with a macro wild flower, and a bit of Asian inspired. I'm all about packaging, and I'm sorry I didn't took a picture of the final gift, but it probably only mattered to me.

So there you have it, my thoughts for the day, I'll finish this with a song that makes me jump up and down every time I listen to it. I guess it will only make sense for just one more month.

Blink 182 - What's my age again

another exhibition and review

A few days ago I had some kind of an exhibition along with other people from my faculty. We had a project where we had to create some banners that symbolised a part of us, of our creativity, or something... I took a pattern that I will use in my next collection, over-sized it, painted it in really bright fuchsia, turquoise and marine blue, and this is what came out. Well the exhibition is still in the Unirii Square, if anyone wants to visit it, I hope the wind and the rain from the last couple of days didn't affect the banners too much.

And instead of a review on my Dumbrava Minunata exhibition, I got a really nice feature on Honey Snap Out where Armina and Adela had such lovely words to describe their impressions of my "girls from the walls". So thank you very much!

And so, as promised, I return with pictures from the show. I hope everyone enjoyed it and had a good time, and like I said, if you weren't there, no worries, the illustrations will fill the walls of Cărtureşti until the 17th of May.

My thoughts about this whole event couldn't be anything else but positive, even though it required some hard work and some frustration moments, it was worth it in the end. I kind of messed my hand and my back for a few days from all that cutting and painting of the frames, but I forgot all about it when I saw all the drawings on the walls.

The entire concept revolved around my latest illustrations, the wonderful grove, hence the name of the exhibition, and the other two collections had some similar characteristics, like the organic and natural feel and inspiration from the traditional wear. I wanted to make it look like a forest, and to give you that feeling of mystery and playfulness when you walked in. We also had some cookies and some tea, and to complete the childish and foresty feel, we had some projections with film slides of stories from when we were kids and of course, stickers. So thank you all for coming and I hope to see you next time... I'll bring my monsters with me.

First of all, happy women's day to all the ladies out there! And welcome spring! I hope this time for good. I feel fresh, like I just hit a restart and refresh button somewhere, yet I am still afraid of what's yet to come. That would be my MA degree collection. I really really want to love this one this time.

Anyway, I complained from the beginning of this year that I couldn't find a really nice calendar to hang on my wall and so my sister got me the coolest calendar ever. It was empty with black pages. And after some hard days of labor, two white markers and silly ideas, here is the result. A very monster illustrated calendar. I hope you like it.

And in the spirit of this spring, I started experimenting a bit more with photography, thanks to my sweet friend Andi, who told me to try to do some mood photos. So here are my first two pictures. A gift box with sweets.

Flunk - Spring to Kingdom Come

I made these three corsets as part of my Papercut project and I kind of wanted to take it to the next level and challenge the creative process a bit more. Being a school project, we were asked to make some kind of mannequins for an exhibition and we had to make them more "artistic-looking". So I thought I could make them like the corset from the Papercut Collection, only this time from cardboard. And I wanted them to still be wearable, but it was a bit tricky because I had to incorporate the head as well. In the end they came out looking a bit more fetish, sanatorium, mummy like which was kind of inevitable. The process of putting them on, having them over the head, closed in very tight, felt like I was caged, strapped, it almost corrects you into a straight position... it's really dubious. Well, no more talk, here are the pictures, I hope you like them.

a letter to the queen

I've never been good with words but I always said I could write my thoughts better than I could express them... so here is what I'm thinking:

It's been a year since... and I could not pick up the courage to say something. I was terrified. How could my thoughts have been personal and comprehensible when everyone was, or seemed to be, so compassionate all of a sudden? So I mourned in silence. I wished I could reach up to you, to your achievements because what you did is what I always dreamed of doing. What you created was a beautiful disaster, such elegant monstrous images that got stuck in my head and I can't imagine not seeing them again. I feel somehow invalid, like a piece of hope from me shattered, it would be so easy to give up yet so glorious to be determined to thrive. But I'm paralysed. I think it's not fair how things happen, how we choose to deal with them, how some choices are taken for us and how, all of a sudden, we have to change our choices and make new ones based on reality and time. I hate time, it's never enough and when there is more than I can take, I hate myself for not taking advantage of it.

I think about it sometimes... what I would have said, without sounding infantile. To this day, I haven't found my introduction. Never mind, I won't be mailing anything. I can't seem to find your address anymore...

I thought I could show you some of the latest craft things I made. I hope you can see more of these in my shop soon; I want to expand the diversity of items there and as soon as I am done with this so called MA I will dedicate more of my time to my little shop.
Anyway, these past Holidays I was very busy trying to make the people around me happy, and besides the brooches I made for my girlfriends, I made a custom toy and some painted boxes.

Here's Adi's Belly Monster. It is a felt toy inspired by the character from a sticker I made a while back for Uman and was his favourite. It has three different changeable t-shirts, to be stylish every day. It took me forever to sew on his band's (SART) logo but it came out looking pretty nice.

Next are my sister's jewelry boxes, they are hand-painted with two of her favourite things in the world, owls and poppy flowers. I painted the inside of each box, of course, in many, many colours.

And in the end, a very special order, Poppy flowers pillows. They are handmade, it took me quite a while to sew all the shading, lines and spots but I enjoyed working on them. The pillows are a replica of my Poppy Flowers painting. I hope the receiver liked them as much as I did.

Currently working on orders, my next collection, new stickers and some school stuff. This month I will post some new, weird and sexual pieces of clothing, as part of my Papercut Project. See you soon!

It's winter again... oh yay, I thought I got rid of it, and the layers of clothing I put on will be fewer and thinner, so I guess the joke is on me. Thank you nature!
In other news, my stress level is now somewhere up high, I have all my exams packed in a week, I'm working on my MA degree collection and some other deadlines are sitting on my shoulders. A subject that I have to write a paper on is really bugging me these days, it's about eroticism and/or violence in contemporary art and as I was preparing the teaser for something yet to come I realised how much the two match. Here's a photo to get you started, I'm still thinking about a name to go with it...

Last but not least, these past weeks I was featured on two amazing blogs, one came from Costin M. on his post about 11 bloggers to follow in 2011, I was really surprised and happy to see myself on that list, it's a true honour. The other came from The Hearabouts, the very stylish and fun blog of Eve and Sandra. First of all, Happy Holidays everyone! I hope these times bring you happiness, warmth, health and good old relaxation. This December I received numerous gifts, some touchable and some virtual. Among those virtual, there were a couple of features one came from Bogdana and her blog Jurnal din burtica. She ordered some of my handmade creations and I guess she liked them a lot because she wrote so many wonderful things about them.

The other one came from Bea and her blog Beango, she featured some of the entries from the Inspired contest and mine was there so I'm grateful to be among her favorites. You can check out her post to see more of the entries and her blog in general for all the interesting things she writes about.

In another order of ideas, this month my little blog had it's second year anniversary so thank you all for still visiting and reading. Thank you!

the wonderful grove...

...or "Dumbrava minunata" in Romanian. This would be the title of my latest illustrated collection. I participated again this year at the Inspired contest here in my country and I got the same place as last year. The challenge was to create a collection inspired by childhood and the first thing that came into my mind was film slides (ro. diafilme); I remember the days, when we were kids, we watched them all the time because we didn't have too many tv programmes, since it was just a bit over the communist era. I was so little I couldn't even read the subtitles and my sister had to read them to me. You get some ideas of what I'm talking about here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 (Turtita or The Caky was my favourite).
And so, each outfit was inspired by a film slide and has an animal hat inspired by a character from that certain tale. The clothes are over-sized, following A-lines and V-shapes, nothing too fitted, nothing too complicated, comfortable, soft fabrics, elastic and easy closing systems, exactly how I think children's clothes should be.

Oh, winter definitely came, along with it's must-have nostalgia that we enjoy so much... it's such a creative fuel. Since the holidays are kicking in, I though I could take some time off to "relax" and catch up with my virtual world. I'm planning to do so many in the next few weeks for myself, stuff like reading, drawing, maybe some handmade accessories, I'm pretty sure none of them will be accomplished. But at least blogging can be cut from the list immediately.

Anyway, I can't believe I forgot to post photos from the latest shooting I've been in, I hope on some level it's understandable why, since my memory suffered when I finished college. So we took these pictures this autumn, it was more an experimental shooting for my sister's new camera, which in the end turned out to be pretty great. I'm really hoping more would come, but I'm not holding my breath.
On the other hand I can say that new fashion illustrations are on the way, new handmade crafts, a twisted turn on the papercut project and a new collection in 2011. Until then though, here are some photos from the shooting and a beautiful autumn song to go along:

A while back I was asked to give an interview for a show about art and fashion from a local radio, Radio Timisoara. It was a fun experience, I always wanted to be on the radio. I was so nervous, like always I said a lot of stupid things but I want to thank Carla for being patient with me and for making me feel so comfortable. So for those who can't really understand Romanian, I talked on and on about my first steps into the art world, a bit about my BA collection but mostly about my handmade creatures, and where they came from, what are they made of, what inspires me and what my plans are for the future. But even if you don't understand, listen closely at 1:34 and you can hear how my name (and nickname) is pronounced, I know a lot of people don't know how to say it right, so there you have it.

Well, well , well... look who's back. I miss having to write every day. I miss drawing for the fun of it, but I guess that's how it goes sometimes. I'm going to fill you in with briefly with what I'm doing now: I began courses at the faculty, my last year of MA and implicitly, my last year of school time, I'm working on 7 fashion projects and my MA degree diploma, so that means another collection will be coming next year in the summer, I'm keeping up with my handmade work, I'm trying to define a certain style I want to maintain as my definitive one and at last I found the time to update my deviantart gallery and with it, edited my Carnivale Collection photos (you can find them on my Facebook account too).
So that's that, here are some features I received lately: the first one is from Ina Todoran on her blog Lifestyle Blog. It brightened up my day and I thank her so much for considering me and for the kind words (click here to read the full article, click on the photo to enlarge).

This next feature is a Thumblr post by Lifestyle is a kind of art with my sketch for Florence.

And this last one, came a while back from Smek and Neks' graffiti models collection, and they really owe it to themselves, because these guys right here are responsible for that lovely colourful graffiti in the background.

I made this sketch as a submission for a contest. I had to design a stage outfit for Florence Welch from Florence + The Machine. So I started by studying her style and tried to anticipate the next move. I was inspired by a fairytale, by a soft and frail mood, by her music and her album and so created an antithesis between soft and hard, organic and synthetic black and white. And this is what I came up with. Hope you like it.

Summer's gone and I thought I should keep my promises. This is my latest work in terms of fashion and my first big MA project, a collection based on elements, geometry and experimental texture manipulation. The main concept was the Deconstruction of Shape, divided into seven techniques. It's basically the second step of my first project, Papercut, only this time, in fabric. It might be hard, at first glance, to consider the pieces as a whole, because the techniques were so different, but I tried keeping everything under the same geometric pattern and colour palette. I named it Elemental, as a mixture of the experimental theme with it's earthy, woody, watery, fiery and windy feel. I'll explain next, the techniques and fabrics used in each garment.

I could begin by saying what I said last summer, that if you were wondering what I did this summer, this is it. Another 70 pillows project only this time, instead of kitties I made an entire clan of colourful monsters. Every pillow is unique and made out of recycled materials. The big ones are decorative pillows and the small ones are like toys that you can hang around your house, car, bag etc. Let the monster invasion begin...

This May I was featured in a Brazilian magazine, Empresario 2.0, with an interview about my printing and design techniques. I know I'm not the biggest textile artist around but I guess they liked my ideas and what I did with my fabrics. Therefore here is a print of the pages and the article, I have to say I love how my words sound in Brazilian/Portuguese. I'm very grateful and this is my way of showing my appreciation.

I certainly don't have the blues, but blue is one of my favourite colours and so it became the leading actor for these other two textile projects I had to do for my MA this semester. I admit I had much more fun with these two than with the last ones, just because I found them easier to work on, and I came up with making a composition from separate pieces rather than an entire piece. Both shawls are 1 m wide and 2,5 m long. The first one is based on a theme called "The sound of circles", it's a triptych and the technique I used is called textile collage. This technique is also known as fabric applications sewed onto a larger piece of fabric, creating a composition, it's the same technique used in quilting (see my Doll Quilt). The second one is called "Water", and it is my abstract vision upon this element. The technique I used is Batik printing (see tutorial: Vegetal - batik printing tutorial) but I added some details by hand with splashes of textile colour and drawn details with textile markers (you can see those in the detail pictures).
I hope these experiments with fabric are finished with me because I'm sure I'll be sticking with fashion and illustration.

Of course, I would never do this on my own for my own pleasure, therefore this is another school project. I couldn't find any way to enjoy this project, since I didn't find it very challenging. The theme was "whatever you like, just make it big" covered under the pretty name of "construction and deconstruction of shape".

So I made two "ginormous" shawls inspired by things that I like or did in the past. The first one (left) is inspired by some of my old sketches - lines and dots - from my first year of college. The technique is called textile collage or applications on fabric, and I filled those with wadding. I also used wool thread to create shapes and add some graphic touches to the composition. As simple as it may look, it was really hard to squeeze 2.5 x 1.0 m of fabric with wadding into my sewing machine., so it was a sweaty, nerve wrecking and stressful task. And the second one, is a bit more childish, I used pigment dieing (tie die technique), textile collage, thread for rain and wadding for the little whale. The size is the same, 2.5 x 1.0 m.

Amazingly, these were in 3 or 4 exhibitions around the country, unfortunately I don't know the names, I don't have the photos, because we were refused to get any information regarding this subject. And I don't even have them anymore, nor do I expect to have them ever again (the irony).

In the last couple of months I picked up my brushes, acrylics and oil paints and started painting for some commissions. Now, I really don't like painting flowers, I really really don't, I think it's such an overdone subject, that just does not inspire me. But, I had some orders of a poppy flower triptych and so I created something more conceptual. Then someone saw those paintings and wanted a diptych. After that someone saw that and wanted a one piece. And there they are, all of the poppy flowers, I have to say, I painted so many, I think I can paint them with my eyes closed now. Enjoy the invasion of red.

street delivery - epilogue

At the Street Delivery event that took place on Mercy Street in Timişoara from the 11th of June to the 13th, I was invited by U-man to paint on a car along other three great artists. We called the entire project, The Dacia pimpin' and it survives still, you can see it at the D'arc terrace on Bega's riverside. In the photos below you can see my contribution to the pimping process, but the other sides were covered by mister Jones, Chihiro Streetcat and Chill and you can find the photos of the entire car here. I had loads of fun with them and the feeling as a whole was amazing, the street was breathing art from every pore. I hope we'll get to do more things like this next year too.

On the last day of May I received a lot of smiles and moments of joy, I guess the sun was shining on my street.
The first good news came from Atelierul Magazine which featured on of my handmade brooches, you can find it in my shop. This feature put a smile on my face just because those pages are filled with talented artists and I'm very glad to be among them.

Then I got a third Daily Deviation on Deviantart, for a piece from my Papercut collection. I say one should be grateful if they got just one such feature, and I have three so far so I'm very thankful.

I announced this collection a while back and I said it was a mini collection made out of unconventional materials so don't give me a disappointing feedback (just joking).
Ok, so this was a project for my fashion course in my first semester of MA. The whole theme was based on the deconstruction of shapes. And this collection would be like a "sketch" for the second one which will be made from fabrics. Even so, these pieces were not made randomly, behind every design there is a specific technique of manipulating a certain material, in this case, paper (excepting the last piece which was made from fabric). To make it more diverse, I chose different types of paper (black textured paper, grey textured paper, natural brown paper, natural beige paper, plain white paper and white textured paper). Above each set of photos I wrote the technique for the paper manipulation.

In the end it was a very successful project, it has been featured in a collective exhibition at the Mansarda Gallery from the Fine Arts and Design Faculty in Timisoara and presented in a fashion show in the Unirii Square in Timisoara. Recently I found out that my first piece (with the cut paper) will be featured in my faculty's catalogue and received a Daily Deviation on DeviantART, so I'm very thankful that it was appreciated on that level.

Well, I'm back to school, studying for my MA, it's not really what I have expected, but I have a fashion course that really captivates and challenges me. This would be a collection I drew for the Inspired Contest in 2009 with which I got the 5th place (you can view my portfolio entry here and others' entries here). I was really happy, I did not expect it, and I think that from so many participants, this place was actually a pretty good one. I really like this collection, I like how the illustrations turned out, I like the concept and I think I'll keep it in mind in the future.

The idea revolved around the Slow Fashion concept, and the basic inspiration for my designs was again, the traditional wear from my country. But this time, I tried not to be so much inspired by the clothes and their cuts, but by the fabrics, materials and traditional techniques used here locally.

Commission for Ica whom I can't thank enough for all her help. I spent around 6 to 8 hours painting this, I really enjoyed it, I've never done this kind of art before on such a large scale. In the end I think it looks pretty nice.

Walls are all around us, mine... are tall (in contrast with myself), very colourful, and meticulously built, every detail is perfect. They keep me safe but hidden, I should know, I made them myself. Don't we all? Don't we create walls of fear, safety, isolation, commonness, routine? I don't mean to sound in any way, but I find it funny how easily we build them up, brick by brick, it takes time, but they're going up, and how hard we find it to tear them down. I really appreciate people that are not afraid of doing so (no... I don't think I'm one of them, at least not all the time), people that don't indulge into a certain something.
Nevermind, it's Tuesday, oh yay, the sun is up but so damn cold, I do not care about the snow that's left, I have my hot coco with me, a stupid smile on my face and I'm ready... to work again. So here's today's song, I like the rhythm, the sound and the lyrics (wink):

We shot this quite some time ago, maybe a year ago, if I'm not mistaken. The concept was a portrait shoot based on some make-up I did. The photos look so colourful, so warm... but in fact it was winter, a very cold but sunny day. But we were close to home and I had great heat coming from the drier so I survived.

This was my Christmas present for my sister, it is a painting that incorporates some symbols that she loves mixed in the battle between natural, organic life and mechanical, robotic shapes. The background is infinite. The colour, water-cold. I spent an entire night painting this so I hope she likes it. Thank you mom for the good coffee you made me that morning.

I don't think you know what I did last summer... unless you were around wanted to get me out in the city. I was busy for a couple of months working on my "kitties" project, a huge commission I received from an Animal Rights Association in Vienna. The pillows and toys were meant to be part of some Christmas gifts from a benefit ball, so I think not too long ago they've just found their owners. In total I sewed about 70 toys (which are actually needle pillows) and decorative pillows, each one being handmade, unique and recycled.

And some photos me and my sis made the day me and my kitties got separated.

Back to fashion... oh, and how I've waited for this post. No matter how long time ago I made this collection, (which is actually a year or so) I still enjoy it. I made these for an exhibition in Serbia, but I don't know how, I've finished college and the exhibition still didn't happen. So I could say I worked hours and hours in vain to finish these illustrations, but I really don't feel I've lost my time. I would really love to put these into fabric but it would take a lot of work, time and money, and also traditional wear was overdone this season that when I'll actually finish with the collection, I'll be so last season. I'll see, maybe for my MA degree.
Anyway, the outfits are inspired by the complicatedly simple traditional costume from my small country, especially from the Banat area, that being the region of my hometown. The pieces of the designs come not only from female outfits but from men's wear too. From that image of the traditional dress, I made it couture by creating something chic, glamorous and stylish.

I've started talking about my collaboration with Uman, so I'll continue a bit on this topic. I have a couple more photo shootings to post that me and my sister took for them. These right here are photos of their products, since I'm modelling for their online shop.
What can I say, it's a tough job, you have to wake up, stand in the middle of bright lights, put on and take of pretty clothes, look nice... it's tough man, it's a really hard (I'm joking, of course). You can find more, all the time, here.

Bigger and better. On of the greatest features of me and my work, Osiris Shoes featured a pair of my custom shoes, from Uman's Art to the Core contest, on their website some time ago. monster dolls

Yes, yes, I think you guessed it by now, I have a thing for monsters. Cute, cuddly, kinky, vulgar, sadistic, voodoo monsters. Don't be afraid, I said cute. I made these plushies as gifts and for commissions. They could serve as key chains, bag or car accessories, collection items or Christmas tree decorations. They are all handmade out of recycled materials, buttons and stitches. I don't know what else to say about them, I am also very tired from my exams, so I'll just end it now, but if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

monster t-shirts

Here are some t-shirts that I customised for friends of mine. Just remember, these are not printed, they are drawn by hand... my hand, of course.
I've seen some of these designs on some girl's accessories, the same girl that stole my ideas from my lines and dots sketches, drawn them on some ear rings and sold them as her own, didn't even bother to cantact me and ask if she could use (actually copy) my work. So if you see these little creatures somewhere elese than on my accounts, don't support art theft (oh, and let me know too). Thank you!

This last one is inspired by an artist I admire very much, Astronautboys, he's style is very decorative and unique and he's my favorite example of modern, street, monster-ish art... and he's just a detail maniac like me, so how could I not love his art?

blana magazine feature

As a result of my collaboration with Uman Shop, I was featured in Blana Magazine in the December issue for 2008. You have an image of the the cover from the magazine and the page in which a drawing of mine was featured. The character, as same as the stickers, is inspired by the Mooshibots.

I made these as part of my collaboration with Uman Shop. The stickers are free and can be found in all U-man Shops from Timişoara, Cluj, Iaşi and Suceava. However, I think the first series is out and probably the second one as well. If series three comes out, I'll let you know in time.

I remember this photo shooting that I did with my sister Ina very well, it was full of laughs and running makeup. I remember being in a hot yet windy day of July and the feeling of the day and the photographs holds really nice memories. The idea behind the images was a portrait study, a bit fashionable, flavoured with an innocent but rocking attitude, and at the very end with an expressive spontaneous capture. It still remains one of my favorite shootings so here are some pieces of it.

...in translation, I cannot write a happy ending, and it's the title of the last album from Stele Verzi (you can find it on their website). I made this drawing as part of my collaboration with Rebel Monk, he's the amazing person that created the mix for my fashion show. So thank you again!

I'm tired of shutting up, put words in my mouth... he says, I don't know why, sometimes I think that's a thought I wake up to or come to reach at a certain moment of the day. The feeling is like the story of me, or you, or him, or her, a certain someone looking for the other one in so many nobodies. It's about loving, falling, walking, seeing, feeling, writing and expressing everything in a form of art... sometimes it helps. It's about life and living, finding something to hold on to, a meaning, finding your place, and his/hers place in your tiny space, leaving the hope to die last and seeing how it can.
It's a bit sad and somehow hopeful, black and white but with lovely shades of coloured greys, feels like poetry but with sounds. That's how I see and feel it.

carnivale - second fashion show

A couple of months ago I was invited at a ball to represent the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design from my hometown, Timişoara, with my Carnivale collection. This photo shooting was taken this summer, before the Carnivale fashion show, for a flyer of all the designers featured in the show. It was really spontaneous but the result is very pleasing. For the make-up I tried something I later used in the collection, but much more subtle, a pale skin tone and emphasis on the eyes. The t-shirt is a wonderful gift from Andi and it has a harlequin on it and the collars are from my collection.

And this is a small collection based on my Carnivale collection that I made for my printing class. It's somehow the same, a bit more freaky and clowny, with huge shapes, bows, fold, coloured flowy fabrics, rhombus (diamond) prints and evil clowns.

those 70's - women's wear

2010 catches me still behind with my posting, but it doesn't matter. Here's the last collection from the 70's project, the women's wear. Now, I admit this one is my favorite, and it's not really hard to guess concerning the amount of work I've put in these sketches. Different paper, different poses and all the colours you can think of. And for these sketches I also tried something new, no watercolours just coloured crayons and markers.

Therefore, I love the seventies, the retro, the old-school, disco, tetris, space invaders and pacman so... here they are, in fashion.

Last post of the year. Since I won't be having time during the day to write, I'll do it now before I go to sleep.
So... this it the men's line, inspired by the 70's, I can't say this was easy nor very complicated so I think I'll draw some more fashion compositions with men in the future. Maybe next time in colour. Despite my need for colour in everything, I kind of like the monochrome touch in these sketches, they are definitely more graphic than my usual style.

those 70's - kids line

Finally I'm getting closer to the collections I still enjoy looking at. The story behind these papers is ruined by the title so no mystery here. It's all about the 70's and That 70's fashion (if you know the movie, you'll get the allusion, if not here's a link That 70's Show). I was inspired by the atmosphere and the title of the show, it doesn't necessarily have to be the exact same clothing (wink).
It was interesting to design for children however I feel the freedom of shapes and "coutureness" is obstructed because there are a lot of things you have to keep in mind when creating clothes for this particular public.
I did not colour them, just gave a small palette of possible colours for the outfits. The designs are inspired from the menswear and womenswear you'll get to see later on.
