the twin sisters - the tropical mom
Recently I had the honour of creating two special watercolour portraits for twin sisters, who were celebrating a milestone—their 40th birthday. After sharing the story behind the first sister’s portrait, I’m excited to talk about the second sister's unique piece. This project not only celebrated a personal milestone but also captured her love for family, travel, and her joyful spirit.
For the second sister, family is at the heart of everything. I wanted to reflect on her deep connection to her loved ones by portraying her with her husband and their adorable baby boy. They share a bond full of warmth and joy, so it was essential to capture that sense of togetherness and happiness in the portrait. To highlight their shared love for travelling, we chose a tropical beach as the backdrop—a place that represents adventure, relaxation, and cherished memories by the sea. The watercolour medium helped me bring out the soft, glowing hues of the beach setting, from the golden sands to the tranquil blue waters, perfectly complementing the serene yet lively family scene in the foreground.
One of the most striking features of this sister is her long, braided, blonde hair, which has become her personal style signature. I wanted to make sure this iconic detail stood out in the portrait, framing her joyful face and representing her vibrant personality. Her bubbly, happy nature shines through in the light, flowing composition of the piece, creating an atmosphere of joy and positivity.
This project has been a joyful reminder of how art can capture life’s special moments and milestones in a way that lasts forever. I hope this portrait will serve as a cherished keepsake for her and her family, reminding them of the happy times and travels they've shared as they move forward into this exciting new chapter of life.
