the twin sisters - the wanderer

It's time for a new addition to my Different Kind of Portrait project. Recently, I had the pleasure of working on a unique commission: two hand-painted watercolour portraits for twin sisters, each with her own distinct personality and interests. The first portrait captures one sister's joyful and adventurous spirit, and it was an exciting challenge to reflect her passions in a whimsical, unconventional style in my own "different kind of" way.

As you, already know, this style is a playful departure from traditional realism. Instead of focusing on perfect proportions or lifelike details, I opted for a doll-like, cartoonish silhouette. It allows the personality of the subject to shine through in a more symbolic, expressive way. The exaggeration of shapes and features makes the portrait lighthearted and full of charm, perfect for someone with a bubbly personality.

The first sister, who loves travelling and photography, is portrayed in a bright red, summer dress capturing her vibrant energy and symbolizing passion and adventure. The backdrop features the iconic "Easter Island statues", which represent her love for exploration and curiosity about the world. The watercolour medium lent itself beautifully to capturing the softness of the sky and the earthy tones of the statues, while the boldness of her red dress stood out, embodying her lively character. I aimed to weave together the joy she brings to life and the sense of wonder she feels while exploring new places. Her portrait is more than just an image—it's a reflection of her personality, passions, and the adventures that define her.

Working on this project reminded me how art can be a delightful form of storytelling. Sometimes, stepping away from traditional portraiture opens up new possibilities for expression. I can't wait to share the second sister's portrait, which captures her own unique interests. Stay tuned for more details about this heartwarming commission and the stories these sisters tell through art!
